Citywire Amplify - asset management uncovered

For a long time, measuring a fund salesperson’s performance has been about the proverbial shoe leather. Phone calls, meetings, events. Anything you can count. It’s easy to measure, but does booking more breakfasts really deliver better results for distribution teams? Amplify asked several senior sales figures in the UK, how salespeople’s KPIs needed to change.

From fund sellers to fund buyers. Every new product needs backing from someone, but how can you get support for your small fund? Amplify spoke to European investors to find out.

One enemy of innovation is cost, a lot of which comes from regulation. Different markets apply their own non-transferable rules, even to seemingly transcendent issues like ESG, causing a huge drag on fund businesses. Our column today argues that regulators have overreached.

And we hear from two more elite equity managers: Tom Coutts and Lawrence Burns. They expounded the virtues of Baillie Gifford’s partnership model, which, they claimed, makes it easier to stick to principles. This is perhaps why they were so open about their investment regrets, as well as some unexpected good news.
