‘I think the asset management sector has to be among the worst in the world for gender parity.’

That is according to author Mary Ann Sieghart, who discussed the findings of our 2022 Alpha Female report with Citywire’s Nisha Long for this episode.

The headline finding of this year’s report was that the increase in the number of women managing active mutual funds has all but ground to a halt.

The proportion of female managers has increased by just 1.7 percentage points since 2016. Men dominate new fund launches, as just 10% of strategies brought to market over the past 12 months were assigned to female managers.

In this episode, Long discusses the report’s main findings with Sieghart, who described the results as ‘retrograde and depressing’.

Also discussed in this episode are the many small changes asset management firms can make to narrow the ‘authority gap’ in a sector which should focus on competence and evidence, instead of confidence and self-promotion.
